The Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) assured the Social Security System (SSS) that its newest product offering, the Unified Multipurpose Identification (UMID), will surely help the agency properly identify all its 34 million members.

Postmaster General Hector Villanueva said Philpost is currently one of the very few entities that offer data capturing service in the Southeast Asian region. Villanueva added that Philpost’s huge number of post offices in over 2,300 places nationwide served as the best edge of the postal office why SSS chose it to provide the UMID.

“Not to mention the sincerity, honesty and perseverance of our men and women from Sabtang, Batanes to Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi, the trust and confidence given to us by SSS to provide this service serve as the real payment,” Villanueva explained.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement signed by Villanueva and SSS president and CEO Romulo Neri, Philpost was given the go signal to capture biometric data such as fingerprints, facial image, distinguishing mark and signature of all SSS members that will be used in the new ID cards using the UMID technology.

The data capturing will start as soon as Philpost determines where to put up data capture work stations in all SSS branches nationwide.

All SSS members are mandated to undergo data capturing to enable them to be enrolled at UMID. Once all SSS members’ data have been captured, the Philpost will start issuing the new ID.

The new ID using UMID technology will help totally eliminate fraud in claiming loans, dividends and pensions which has been a major headache of the pension fund for several decades now.
